About the Role Maroomba Airlines is seeking an experienced Head of Safety & Quality to provide strategic leadership across our Safety Management System (SMS), Quality Management System (QMS), compliance and enterprise risk frameworks. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role is responsible for embedding a mature, people‑centred safety culture that supports safe operations, regulatory compliance, operational resilience and sustainable growth in a complex, highly regulated aviation environment. The Head of Safety & Quality plays a critical role in balancing safety, performance and commercial outcomes, while ensuring compliance with CASA regulatory requirements across flying operations and MRO activities. Key Responsibilities Safety, Quality & Risk Leadership Provide strategic leadership of the organisation’s SMS, QMS and enterprise risk frameworks. Ensure compliance with CASA regulatory requirements, including Part 121, Part 145 and Part 42 (as applicable). Act as CASA‑approved nominated personnel, maintaining independent oversight of safety and quality across operations and engineering. Lead safety investigations, occurrence reporting, hazard identification and risk mitigation. Maintain oversight of Emergency Response, DAMP, Environmental Management and associated safety manuals and registers. Champion a just reporting and learning culture that promotes transparency and continuous improvement. Develop and mentor safety and quality leaders, building capability and accountability across the organisation. Partner with operational leaders to embed shared ownership of safety beyond the safety function. Provide calm, credible leadership during incidents, audits, investigations and periods of operational change. Governance & Assurance Provide independent, high-quality safety and quality advice to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board. Lead internal and external audit programs, including CASA and client audits. Ensure timely closure of audit findings and corrective actions. Chair or lead safety governance forums, including Safety Management Meetings. Training & Capability Development Lead the development and delivery of safety, quality and compliance training programs. Ensure appropriate initial, recurrent and role‑specific training aligned with CASA requirements. Oversee induction and onboarding safety training for employees and contractors. Monitor training effectiveness and continuously improve programs based on trends and organisational maturity. Change, Growth & Fleet Introduction Lead safety and quality oversight of fleet expansion and aircraft introductions. Ensure effective Management of Change (MoC) processes during growth and operational change. Support scalable systems that enable growth without compromising safety or compliance. Stakeholder & Regulator Engagement Act as the primary liaison with CASA and relevant regulators. Build strong, transparent relationships with regulators, auditors, industry bodies and clients. Represent the airline in industry safety forums as required. Key Measures of Success Strong safety performance indicators and effective hazard and risk management outcomes. Positive CASA engagement outcomes, including audit results and regulatory confidence. Demonstrated maturity of safety culture and reporting behaviours across the organisation. Timely and effective closure of audit findings and corrective actions. Successful, safe integration of new aircraft types and operational growth. High engagement, capability and retention within the safety and quality team. Measurable improvement in training effectiveness and reporting quality About You Required Significant senior leadership experience in aviation safety and quality within a regulated airline or MRO environment. Deep knowledge of CASA regulations, SMS, QMS and enterprise risk management. Proven experience providing independent advice at executive and Board level. Strong incident management, investigation and regulator engagement capability. Experience designing and delivering safety and compliance training programs. Experience supporting fleet expansion, growth or operational transformation. Exposure to regional, charter or FIFO aviation environments. Understanding of ESG, workforce wellbeing and psychosocial safety considerations. Leadership Attributes Calm, credible and decisive under pressure.
