The Senior Director Government Relations & Public Affairs (GRPA) Latin America role aims to enhance business value by positioning DP World favorably with government representatives and civil society in Latin America. The position reports to the Head of Government Relations & Public Affairs Americas. This is a new role within the organization, and the crucial first goals are to build an effective regional Government Relations and Public Affairs capability, and to become a trusted advisor with the business. The role must maintain a robust understanding of the political environment and drivers for government and civil society stakeholders throughout the region. Key responsibilities include providing strategic advice to the business, influencing the regulatory environment, preserving and building the company’s reputation, monitoring and influencing statutory, legislative and regulatory actions, and managing risks and opportunities. Key Accountabilities Advises on political systems, government processes and key personalities within government and civil society Sets up systems for collecting, interpreting and disseminating intelligence on politics at all levels of government and related sectors Engages with key stakeholders of government and civil society including Port Authorities, trade associations and labor organizations Advises DP World corporate functions and business units on interpreting underlying nuances and cultural subtleties involved in government decision‑making Anticipates potential issues from government systems for prompt escalation to DP World leadership Identifies significant national and regional political events and trends for inclusion in GR strategies Determines the impacts of government policies, tax, finance and regulatory developments on DP World business and advises on appropriate strategies and plans for response Assesses political and social systems and provides appropriate advice to the business units and Americas regional team Work closely with businesses and functions to secure opportunities and manage risks Engages with governments to shape regulatory frameworks and influence policy, advocating on behalf of DP World’s positions and interests When decisions are considered, provides balanced perspectives that integrate business, functional, geographical and temporal perspectives Work together with the business in developing government‑specific Customer Value Propositions that distinguish DP World from its competitors as a partner of choice Maps relationships and engagements with government and civil society stakeholders Qualifications, Experience and Skills Minimum 10 years’ experience in strategic consulting, analytical, business, government/diplomatic and Regulatory Affairs/Government Relations and Public Affairs, communications roles Politically astute, with developed networks within relevant governments within LPAR region Degree in Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Economics or related field High degree of discretion and unquestioned personal and business integrity Outstanding communicator; excellent command of Spanish and English in written and spoken form required; advanced command of Portuguese is a significant advantage Ability to multi‑task and manage complexity and highly fluid situations; manage and deliver against compressed deadlines Strong influencing/motivating skills and ability to drive delivery and manage others Highly developed interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels Experience in Issues Management and Crisis Management Good knowledge of governance and business control frameworks; evidence of strong analytical skills Can‑do attitude in accomplishing what is necessary, either through own efforts or through others Ability to work effectively in cross‑cultural and diverse stakeholder environments; good negotiator and coalition builder Considerable experience in regulatory frameworks and processes is a requirement Please note: This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.
