Principal Geoscientist Job PostingA key member of the Exploration Prospect Evaluation team, responsible for identifying, executing and advancing exploration of porphyry-skarn copper projects in Peru.

About the RoleThe Principal Geoscientist will be accountable for carrying out high-quality data capture, analysis, and interpretation leading to business decision making.
- Advising the lead opportunity and Manager PE on technical exploration decisions involving geological, geochemistry, geophysics data interpretation with timely recommendations.
- Identifying prospect areas and appropriate methodologies for sampling and data collection to build ore body knowledge enabling investment decisions for BHP.
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring sampling-analysis protocols & QA/QC programs to quantify the quality, risks, and compliance of geological data.
- Designing and executing data collection methodologies and interpretations to provide data-driven survey guidance for the organisation.
- Performing geological modelling based on integrated datasets to analyse and interpret target areas and generate valuable orebody knowledge.
- Building, validating, deploying, and documenting Machine Learning/Predictive models to classify and predict future events at scale.
- Identifying, engaging, and managing a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate must have:
- A strong commitment to safety, social value, and sustainability.
- A sound understanding of porphyry-skarn copper deposits, geological features, and mineral system frameworks, with application to exploration techniques.
- An understanding of the overall objectives of the country and wider objectives of the Metals Exploration.
- A deep technical understanding and a strategic view of how to accomplish results through influencing to accomplish successful performance of the role.
- A degree in Geology or related science from a reputable university.
- Proficiency in technical presentation and ability to lead opportunity framing sessions.
- Solid field experience.
- A solid understanding of exploration workflow as applied to base metal exploration.
- Proficiency in common industry software for geoscientific data (ArcGIS Pro, Leapfrog, Oasis Montaj, etc).
- Availability for field work around 50% of the time.
- 8+ years experience in mineral exploration.
