The Volunteer's Role:


Cuso International Peru is actively searching for an exceptional volunteer like yourself to support the development and growth of the Centro Bartolomé de las Casas (CBC) and their responsible tourism agency.


The agency is dedicated to advancing community-based rural tourism in the Cusco region, bringing tangible economic and socio-cultural benefits to the local communities.

Your role will be essential in ensuring its continuous presence in the bustling tourism market of Cusco.


Your expertise will play a pivotal role in empowering and strengthening your local colleagues in CBC's Solidarity Economy Department and their responsible tourism agency named CBCtupay.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge with community members who provide tourism services, with a focus on responsible tourism, corporate social responsibility, and fair trade.

Your skills will also be utilized to provide training to community-based tourism providers in four rural communities in Cusco, emphasizing sustainable tourism ethics and management.


In addition, you will serve as a vital advisor in the communications strategy and the integration of different organizational levels involved, from the CBC organization to the rural tourism agency, all the way to the rural communities.

The ultimate objective is to foster a fruitful and collaborative partnership among all three entities.

As a volunteer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Guide on quality standards and facilitate participation in rural enterprise tourism certification programs.
  • Create and establish tourism offerings and collaboration agreements between rural communities and the CBCtupay travel agency.
  • Deliver training sessions to rural tourism service providers on Responsible Tourism and Communitybased Rural Tourism.

Essential Requirements:

  • University degree in Tourism, Economy, International Development, Sustainable Community Development or a related field.

Essential Background:

  • A strong interest in the Quechua culture and communityoriented Rural Tourism.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various contexts and environments, including visits to indigenous communities.
  • Exhibits a high level of sensitivity when interacting with indigenous populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A creative individual with good judgement who can work both independently and as part of a team.

Cuso International will deliver the Sharing Canadian Expertise for Inclusive Development and Gender Equality (SHARE) project, with a contribution from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) over seven years SHARE aims to improve the economic and/or social well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, in developing countries, to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition to increasing the engagement of Canadians in international development and key global issues, this project will aim to increase the performance of country partners to deliver more inclusive, innovative and environmentally sustainable development initiatives that advance gender equality, in support of the action areas of Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy.

The Centro Center Bartolome de Las Casas (CBC) was established on May 25th, 1974 as a private non-profit organization in Cusco.

It was created in response to the ongoing need to cultivate and encourage the exploration and comprehension of the cultural, historical, economic, and socio-environmental aspects of the Andean rural world.

This world is considered a distinct reality that should be understood in terms of its past, present, and future possibilities.
