Reporting to the Teck Compañía Mineral Zafranal (CMZ) Project Services Manager, and functionally to the Project Controls Manager (Teck PDG), the Project Controls Manager will serve as a senior resource to direct and implement project controls methods, procedures and systems on medium to large projects (total installed project costs could range from CAD$1 billion to CAD$2 billion).
During the detailed design phase, the function will generally be based in the Lima Zafranal office, with an option for rotations or assignments for this function.
Once the project moves into the construction phase, the function will be based at the site with a rotation to be established during detailed engineering.

The Zafranal Project is managed by Compañia Minera Zafranal ("CMZ") in which Teck holds an 80% interest and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation a 20% interest.
The project is a mid-sized copper-gold mine development opportunity in southern Peru at moderate elevation with good access to existing road and port infrastructure.
The Feasibility Study ("FS") was completed in June 2019 and contemplates a 65 ktpd open-pit mine and concentrator operation producing an average of 125 ktpa copper in concentrate over the first five years and 78 ktpa copper in concentrate over a 19-year mine life at C1 cash costs of $1.16/lb and $1.49/lb respectively, net a significant gold credit in concentrate (using $3.50/lb Cu and $1,550/oz Au).
Accountabilities:
- Responsible for project controls deliverables, in particular providing guidance and coaching to other project controls team members and consultants.
- Deliver nonroutine cost control, change management and planning guidance to the entire team.
- Be a fearless safety leader, comply with and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Maintain and demonstrate Teck's commitment to safety and environmental protection as a core value.
- Participate in the development of appropriate RFP criteria, define bid evaluation criteria and conduct consultant and contractor bid reviews in the Project Controls function.
- Responsible for the development of project controls management plans, both internal and from service providers, specifically in the areas of: Estimating, Planning, Cost Management, Change Management, Progress and Performance Management, and Report Preparation.
- Responsible for the configuration and implementation of the various project controls systems, processes and workflows (internal and with appropriate input from service providers).
- Responsible for the preparation and implementation of project specific procedures and guidelines for project controls in alignment with the Project Procedures Manual (PPM) and project configuration requirements.
- Assist in the development and review of Work Breakdown Structures, Work Packages, Estimates and Schedules at each project phase.
- Responsible for developing project Control Accounts as a point of integration of Cost, Schedule, Resourcing and Procurement.
- Provide support and interface with Project Accounting and/or Business Unit Finance groups.
- Deliver timely, accurate and indepth analysis of project health with respect to Control Account trends and variances; deliver root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Attend and actively participate in weekly Project Controls review meetings, change management meetings, project services meetings or any other meetings held periodically as appropriate.
- Responsible for the preparation of weekly and monthly project reports.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly project presentations as appropriate.
- Responsible for conducting project control audits on service providers, as appropriate.
- Support the independent review of project controls plans and performance of Configuration Checks, Health Checks or Stage Gates.
- Complete and compile all project stage information for inclusion in the internal project database.
Skill Requirements:
- Professional with a degree in the following specialties: engineering, accounting, finance, business administration, or a diploma in a related specialty.
- More than 15 years of experience in project control, preferably in mining/industrial projects.
- At least 8 years of experience in project control in an Owner's role is required.
- 5 years of field experience.
- Strong technical knowledge and principles of project management and control of the engineering and construction industry for large mining/industrial projects.
- Experience working in both Study and Execution stages of projects.
- Excellent communication skills in Spanish and English, both verbal and written, are required.
