Organization Profile:


NESsT currently manages a loan fund that is actively investing in social enterprises looking to raise capital from $50K to $500K.

They are typically companies with annual turnover under $10M working with vulnerable communities (smallholder farmers, at-risk youth, vulnerable women). They often need bolstering their financial management capabilities, corporate governance and/or impact traceability.


The fund provides senior, secured debt and mezzanine to companies that are profitable and looking to scale their operations to have a stronger and more sustainable social impact.

The loan fund team is based in Lima, Peru with activities in Peru, Colombia and looking to grow into Brazil in 2024 and into other countries in South America in the next few years.


Position Overview:
NESsT is currently looking for a Junior Associate to help support the loan team.

They will be mainly focus in help the portfolio management team in monitoring companies, evaluating their performance, harvesting new loan opportunities, process disbursements and helping companies grow their social and environmental impacts as well as succeed commercially.

They will help also the underwriting team evaluate opportunities, assist with the due diligence process, and bring the company into the NESsT portfolio.

We are hiring for a full-time position that will have a three-month trial period.


The position will report to the Portfolio Manager located in Lima and will be actively working and directly supporting the work of other Associates in the fund.

The position is based in Lima, Peru; with potential travels to other cities in Peru and Colombia.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Mainly focus in:

Portfolio Management
Working with the Portfolio Manager to support the fund's portfolio management:

  • Helping to evaluate the social impact of the loan portfolio by analysing beneficiary profiles and employment situations
  • Harvesting new loan opportunities from the current portfolio, conduct due diligence, prepare investment memos to report to the credit committee and close the transactions.
  • Develop suitable commercial relationships with clients.
  • Maintain working capital revolving credit lines with high levels of utilization. Perform suitable monitoring of market risks and compliance of internal policies.
  • Generate updated memos, waivers, term sheets and other internal documents to present to the credit committee. Work closely with legal advisors to obtain suitable legal documentation to manage the portfolio.
  • Work closely with portfolio companies to ensure that they are in compliance with all financial obligations and reporting requirements outlined in the loan
  • Help to manage loan repayment information and maintain borrower compliance information.
  • Support the portfolio management team regarding noncurrent loans and events of default.
  • Support the accounting team with loan accounting reconciliation.
  • Assist the portfolio companies in areas that have opportunities for improvement, and providing trainings when needed.

Additional support in:

Origination
Working closely to support the origination effort to do the following:

  • Proactively searching for new opportunities in Peru, Colombia and Brazil
Underwriting and Closing new TransactionsWorking closely with the underwriting team of the fund, the Junior Associate will:

  • Help to analyse and perform due diligence on SEs' financial status, credit risk, to determine feasibility of granting loans.
  • Provide support in building investment memos to present to the Credit Committee at all three stages of underwriting.
  • Support the Associates in the construction of the loan finance model for each transaction.
  • Highlight identified risks and make risk mitigation strategy recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree, ideally in economics, finance, industrial engineering, business administration or similar careers and at least 2 years of work experience in similar positions.
  • Commitment to social impact. This can include demonstrated experience in volunteer positions. Experience with social enterprises and/or commercial banking is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, the ability to approach tasks in a highly organized, logical and diligent
  • Strong financial education and skills: Ability to set up and analyse a fully functional financial model with integrated P&L, balance sheet and cashflow; ability to build and run sensitivities for various downside cases; ability to calculate payment schedules.
  • Education and/or experience with accounting and reading of financial statements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in Spanish and advanced verbal and written skills in English.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and produce highquality work within tight time constraints
  • Ability to be flexible, resourceful and innovative in a small, dynamic, nonprofit env
