Technical Product Owner

Domain(IBPM)|Product Development|Product Lifecycle Management Job Description Tech PO is responsible for maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the development team. This role involves close collaboration with the Product Manager, Business Owners, and development teams to translate high-level product vision and strategy into actionable user technical stories and tasks. The Technical Product Owner ensures that the team understands the product requirements and works to deliver high-quality increments that meet business needs. Tech PO’s are needed (instead of PO’s) where products are highly technical and require frequent ‘Tech Enablers’ to drive business features. Key Responsibilities 1. Backlog Management: - Own and manage the assigned team’s user stories within the product backlog, ensuring it is up to date, prioritized (based on stakeholder feedback, business value, and changing requirements), and aligned with the product roadmap and strategic direction set by the Product Manager. - Write clear, concise, and actionable technical user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria, definition of ready, and definition of done. - Continuously refine the backlog within the team members (Architect, tech leads, developers, QA Testers). - Estimate technical user stories based on story points (effort, uncertainty, and complexity) to define capacity per iteration. 2. Technical PO Background (Important to have): - Product Development with CSPs (AWS, Azure, GCP). Knowledge of Cloud concepts, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. - Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineering teams, ensuring that technical solutions are aligned with product requirements and business goals. - Work under agile frameworks and methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), managing planning, reviews, refinements, and grooming. - Collaborate with Technology Solutions Architects and Integration Engineers to design and implement technically feasible solutions. - Review and understand technical designs, ensuring they meet quality standards and align with the product vision. - Review product increments to ensure they meet the technical design, customer-required functionality, safety, quality standards, and documentation. - Strong hands‑on managing technical user stories focus on the process (Development, Code Review, Testing, SecOps, review‑UAT, deployment, and release). - Knowledge of non‑functional vs functional requirements. - Managing definitions and priorities under high uncertainty environments. 3. Stakeholder Collaboration: - Work closely with the Product Manager to understand the product vision, priorities, futures, strategy, manage of technical information, and goals. - Engage with Engineering teams, Architects, and other stakeholders to gather technical requirements, feedback, and validate stories. - Facilitate communication between stakeholders and the development team to ensure alignment. 4. Sprint Planning and Execution: - Participate in sprint planning meetings to help the team understand the requirements and prioritize tasks. - Ensure that the development team has a clear understanding of user stories and acceptance criteria. - Provide timely feedback and clarification to the development team during sprints. 5. Product Development and Delivery: - Collaborate with the development team to deliver high‑quality product increments that meet the defined requirements. - Conduct regular reviews and demos of completed work to gather feedback and ensure alignment with business needs. - Ensure that delivered features meet the acceptance criteria and are ready for release. 6. Continuous Improvement: - Monitor and evaluate product and agile performance using metrics and KPIs, and make data‑driven decisions to improve the product. - Participate in retrospectives and other continuous improvement activities to enhance team performance and product quality. - Stay up‑to‑date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to inform product decisions. 7. Documentation and Communication: - Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for user stories, features, and product requirements. - Communicate progress, risks, and issues to the Product Manager and other stakeholders. - Ensure that all relevant information is shared with the development team in a timely manner. 8. Interfaces and Collaboration: - Product Managers: Work closely with Product Managers to ensure that the technical product backlog aligns with the overall product vision, strategy, and roadmap. - Engineering Teams: Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure that technical solutions are aligned with product requirements and business goals, providing technical leadership throughout the development process. - Business Owners: Engage with Business Owners to understand business priorities, gather technical requirements, and validate technical features. - Technology Solutions Architects and Integration Engineers: Work with technical teams to ensure that technical solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with architectural standards. - Stakeholders: Facilitate communication between stakeholders and technical teams to ensure alignment and gather feedback on technical product development.
