**WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER**:
The Peru Fisheries Specialist leads The Nature Conservancy’s efforts to work with government agencies, local communities, the private sector, and other organizations in Peru and Chile, under the framework of TNC’s Peru Ocean Program, to put in place practices that will lead to sustainable management of fishing resources and effective conservation of marine habitats. The Fisheries Specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing strategies aimed at assessing marine stocks status, defining control rules and fishing regulations, reducing overfishing, establish sound fishing practices and securing that ecosystem considerations are taken into account in the management of industrial and artisanal fisheries and the promotion of innovative solutions for marine conservation. The Peru Fisheries specialist will support the FishPath Network of practitioners in the implementation of the FishPath strategy in Peru, Chile and other selected geographies. This is a 2-year fixed-term contract
**WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU**:
The Peru Fisheries specialist, supports the planning, manages and advances the implementation of the fisheries and marine conservation strategies for the Peru Ocean Program and supporting the Chile Ocean Program.
**WHAT YOU'LL BRING**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Fisheries Science or similar field and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management, fisheries science, marine conservation or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with fisheries or marine science, fisheries stock assessments and/or conservation science.
- Experience with current political and socioeconomic trends and practices that affect the marine environment in Peru and Chile, particularly fisheries, and ability to work at the nexus of science and policy.
- Experience in working with a broad variety of stakeholders related to the marine environment, including government officials, fishing communities, academia, NGO’s, others in Peru and Chile.
- Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
- Fluent with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English and Spanish
**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 4 years’ experience in natural resource management, conservation of biodiversity, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Intimate knowledge of politics, government policies and agencies, and non-government organizations, in particular in Ecuador, with respect to environmental affairs, indigenous interests and social development programs.
- Knowledge of and employment of legal mechanisms that involve indigenous rights, biodiversity conservation, and management of protected areas, in particular in Ecuador.
- Knowledge of ecological land and water management principles.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.
