Overview:
ACDI/VOCA is currently assisting the Honduran Foundation for Agricultural Research or Fundación Hondureña de Investigación Agrícola (FHIA) in looking for their new Director General. Established in 1984, FHIA aims to strengthen national food security through the generation, validation, and transfer of agricultural technology related to traditional and non-traditional crops, in collaboration with national and international institutions.
**Director General, Fundación Hondureña de Investigacion Agricola (FHIA)**
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director General will serve as FHIA’s legal representative at both national and international levels and will be responsible for the execution of the annual operation plan and budget management. They will lead FHIA’s strategy development and growth strategy with a specific focus on identifying and cultivating funding opportunities with new donors and international partners. This position is based in La Lima, Cortés, Honduras.
**Responsibilities**:
- Plan, direct, and evaluate the operational performance of FHIA
- Supervise Human Resources, Administration, Director of Research, Director of Laboratory Services, and the Internal Auditor
- Propose the Operational Plan and Annual Budget in the determined time before the Board of Directors for analysis and subsequent approval at the General Assembly
- Ensure the financial sustainability of FHIA, which requires capacities for fund management and income generation
- Ensure the efficient execution of the Operational and Financial Plans approved by the Board of Directors and the General Assembly
- Supervise the investment operations of the Endowment Fund in the trusts
- Ensure the assets and resources of the institution, ensuring their maintenance and proper functioning for the purposes of the case
- Execute the planning and periodic updating of the fundraising strategy for FHIA
- Make available to the Internal Audit, the Board of the Endowment Fund, and the Committees of the Board of Directors the means they require for the full fulfillment of their functions
- Propose to the Board of Directors the appointment and promotion of employees
- Prepare and present the Annual Report of Activities and the Financial Report to the Board of Directors and after its approval to the General Assembly for its knowledge
- Legally represent FHIA in judicial and extrajudicial acts and before bodies with which the foundation must deal, inside and outside the country
- Provide direct contact with the Government of Honduras, especially with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and with international cooperation
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in agricultural sciences or relevant area required; PhD preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in managing both operational and financial performance of an organization including the development of annual budge
- Experience in fund management and in the development, execution, and updating of income generation and funding strategies.
- Proven experience in identifying and building new partnerships and funding stream to drive FHIA’s core business and service offerings; having existing networks of prospective donors would be an added advantage.
- Experience within the agricultural sector to effectively communicate with FHIA’s network, donor, and research Knowledge about tropical crops especially bananas, cocoa, tropical fruit trees and warm climate vegetables would be an asset.
- Proven people management skills, with the ability to lead and manage team
- Experience working in Honduras or Central America preferred.
- Fluency in English and Spanish required.
