Company Description
We help the world see new possibilities and inspire change for better tomorrows. Our analytic solutions bridge content, data, and analytics to help business, people, and society become stronger, more resilient, and sustainable.
**Job Description**:
The metals and mining industry will play a central and crucial role in the key issues of the coming decades: the energy transition, critical supply chains, geopolitics, socio-environmental stewardship, economic development, and others. Wood Mackenzie is uniquely positioned to help industry stakeholders successfully navigate these changing times and make decisions that enable them to unlock their potential.
The Senior Analyst role will be based within the smelting and refining team at Wood Mackenzie. Our team provides cost, market, and sustainability research on the downstream processing sector of the metals and mining industry. This role will be focused on the copper sector.
The Senior Analyst’s role has a range of responsibilities, but the primary focus will be to take the lead on Wood Mackenzie’s copper smelting and refining asset level analysis. This will include modelling the asset level costs and emissions. You will also create and provide important insight into the cost landscape and industry in a variety of formats, including written reports and client presentations. You will work collaboratively with other members of the Smelting and Refining team as well as across the Metals and Mining research division.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Consistently develop and maintain the copper smelting and refining cost and emissions global asset data.
- Drive and support the ongoing improvement of the copper smelting and refining cost and emissions benchmarking products.
- Work closely with the market commodity teams and provide updated cost and emissions analysis to supplement our commodity markets products.
- Work closely with colleagues in other research sector groups including, but not limited to, market teams and the Energy Transition Practice to help shape the company’s integrated view.
- Produce client-focused insights based on the asset analysis carried out, often in collaboration with other members of the smelting and refining team or other teams in the metals and mining space.
- Effectively communicate analysis findings to clients through written deliverables, web-calls, podcasts, conferences, and face-to-face presentations.
- Participate in supporting sales and marketing activities including events, webinars, and face-to-face presentations.
- Contribute consistently to consultancy or other cross-sector projects and help shape project requirements.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with industry contacts and research clients, including presentation to clients via various deliverables, necessitating international travel.
- Respond to client enquiries and ad hoc requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Make a contribution towards internal and external knowledge sharing.
**Qualifications**:
- A degree in a relevant discipline such as Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining, Geology, Economics, Business or Finance.
- Experience with copper costing methodology.
- A good understanding of the mining industry, specifically the copper industry. Preferably gained from 4-8 years’ experience analyzing commodities markets or mining/smelting/refining assets, through employment at either a resource company, metal processing company, consulting firm, or in the financial sector.
- Strong numeracy skills and an analytical approach.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Strong written and spoken Spanish is also a bonus.
- An understanding of our clients’ expectations and requirements, and the ability to meet them.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team, achieve results, work to deadlines, and work effectively with new colleagues.
- The confidence and skills to present to industry participants and company clients at a range of levels and via various forms including calls, webcasts, podcasts, presentations, and face-to-face meetings.
- Establish and maintain contacts with mining industry stakeholders to acquire proprietary data and knowledge.
- Creative and innovative thinking, the ability to develop and contribute to new ideas.
- Good organizational and planning skills.
- Experience in asset/company valuation techniques and asset modelling.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel.
