Produce Pay Inc. is a tech-based cash flow solution that provides domestic and foreign fresh produce farmers (growers) who ship to the U.S. with immediate access to distribution and financing. Produce Pay’s solutions provide the working capital for fresh-produce growers’ need to complete their harvest and grow.

By leveraging our international network, ProducePay connects clients with interested fresh produce buyers and distributors. Interested distributors receive connection to a growing list of international farmers who might otherwise feel limited by current financing options.

The ProducePay Peru Manager of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of sustainability best practices among ProducePay’s clients producing fresh fruits and vegetables in Peru. This ESG Manager for Peru is an expert in Environmental and Social (E&S) risk management in the agricultural industry. They have a hands-on background in conducting social and environmental impact assessments (EIA), and in implementing and monitoring environmental and social action plans (ESAP’s). 

Success in this role is defined by the extent to which fruit and vegetable agriculturalists in Peru can comply with ProducePay’s standards of sustainability excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as ProducePay’s resident expert regarding current areas of environmental and social (E&S) risk in the agriculture industry of Peru, including defining, validating and tracking the key E&S risks which ProducePay faces as an entity doing business in the agriculture industry in Peru.
  • Collaborate with ProducePay’s key client account managers to effectively engage existing and potential ProducePay clients in Peru and other geographies where support is needed.
  • Lead the design and execution of social and environmental impact assessments (EIA) for ProducePay clients.
  • Manage ProducePay consultants and third party vendors providing EIA support and services.
  • Manage ProducePay’s relationships with NGOs, Non-Profit organizations and certification bodies leading the development and implementation of E&S risk management in agriculture in Peru.
  • Lead the design and execution of environmental and social action plans (ESAP’s) for ProducePay clients so they may achieve and maintain ProducePay’s standards of sustainability excellence.
  • Monitor and measure clients’ ESAP progress, including in-person meetings and site visits with ProducePay’s clients in Peru.
  • Collaborate with ProducePay’s Inspector of ESG to conduct site visits to monitor client ESAP progress.
  • Collaborate with ProducePay’s Senior Manager of ESG to ensure consistency with client ESAP management in countries other than Peru.
  • Collaborate with ProducePay’s Director of ESG to ensure consistency with ProducePay’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) and its process for ensuring client compliance with ProducePay’s standards of sustainability excellence.
  • Consult ProducePay’s impact investors (including Inter American Development Bank Invest (IDB Invest) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC)) to ensure ProducePay is in alignment and compliance with impact investors’ requirements and expectations.
  • Draft and deliver regular client progress reports on their EIA’s and ESAP’s.
  • Synthesize and interpret client E&S risk management success in order to scale similar solutions to additional agriculturalists in Peru.
  • Engage and educate agriculturalists in Peru (both ProducePay clients and non ProducePay clients) on E&S risk management best practices, including design and delivery of training materials.
  • Design and implement ProducePay’s long term plan for managing environmental and social risks among clients in Peru, including proposed critical areas for ProducePay to invest.
  • Ensure that ProducePay’s long term plan for managing Peru E&S risks aligns with ProducePay’s long term corporate strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in environmental engineering, natural resource engineering, ecology, environmental planning, agronomy, or similar degree related to natural resources and the environment.
  • Minimum 10 years’ of experience managing environmental and social risks in agriculture, including conducting impact assessments and action plans; critical areas of focus include, but are not limited to, large scale water quality and quantity management, community engagement and impact management, indigenous community engagement, biodiversity management and protection.
  • Minimum five years’ experience engaged in the agriculture industry of Peru.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and reporting skills.
  • Proven track record in external stakeholder management, including facilitation of local community engagement programs.
  • Proven track record in internal teamwork and collaboration.
  • Expert level capabilities in the Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Availability and ability to travel at least 50% of the time, into agricultural fields across Peru or additional countries as needed.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate, self-organize, self-prioritize and work independently.
  • Fluency (spoken and written) in Spanish and English.
