The International Potato Center (CIP) islooking for a dynamic Laboratory Senior Coordinator with excellent communication and organizationalskills to provide support to the Research Support Unit department.
About the role: the Laboratory coordinator will plan and conductoperational plans and projects to contribute with Unit´s goals. This positionwill be based in Lima, Peru and will report to the Research Support UnitManager.
Key responsibilities:
Management
Plan,organize, supervise and if required participate in the execution and complianceof laboratories and/or greenhouses activities to guarantee efficient managementof assigned resources and timely delivery of services and / or assigned tasks. Perform continuoussupervision of the activities carried out in the laboratories/greenhouses underhis/her responsibility. Managementof human resources that are required by the laboratories including talentmanagement. Ensure andsupervise the proper use, maintenance, and upgrade of facilities(infrastructure and environmental conditions), equipment, software, and LIMS. Ensurethat safety conditions are established, known, and complied at work, before,during and after the performance of activities. Monitorand ensure that laboratories/greenhouses’ staff and users observe health andsafety procedures and policies.Finance & Budget
Developlong-term capital plan and execute it (on a yearly basis) in short term. Prepareand execute the annual maintenance plan and the purchase plan for consumables& reagents and for uniforms. Responsibleof generating requisitions and the follow up of their corresponding purchaseorders (internal, local, and international) to ensure the correctimplementation of the approved budget Responsibleof monthly monitoring of cost recovery and financial balance of the unit.Coordinate and support the strategy to offer external services. Support onthe preparation of the annual budget with due justification, monthly monitoringof the budget and notification of charges for services (monthly chargebacks toprojects) Preparationof the quotations/proforma invoices for the requested services, follow up withusers, coordinate the issuance of the corresponding invoices, confirmrecoveries, and assure the proper dispatch/delivery of services (products /test results) locally and abroad. Proposeand coordinate the inclusion of current and new services offered in the Unit inthe budgets of the projects of the CIP programs.Technical tasks
Providesupport and / or technical advice to analysts in the interpretation,application and / or validation of test methods used in the laboratories. Preparethe report of the results generated in the Laboratory and notify users(internal and external), including other internal management documents. Propose,plan, validate and implement new test methods and services to meet internal andexternal existing demand and for new business development. Manage andensure the validation of tests that do not have their respective supportstudies. Ensurethat the laboratories apply assays, techniques and / or procedures that ensurethe integrity and reliability of the results in alignment with the ISO/IEC17025 standard. Prepare,coordinate, and execute the annual maintenance plan for laboratories/greenhouse equipment and infrastructure and generate monthly reports to evaluatetendencies to make opportune decisions. Prepare,revise, update and publish (intranet and/or open access versions) theprocedures and instructive that are required for the execution and control(documentation, traceability, etc.) of laboratories activities. Applypreventive actions and corrective measures when required in alignment with theISO/IEC 17025 standard. Keep up ontechnical and administrative knowledge. Demonstrateability, punctuality, efficiency, and confidentiality in the performance ofduties.-
