Reporting to the Teck Compañia Mineral Zafranal (CMZ) Project Director, the
Project Services Manager will be accountable for the Project Controls, Contracts and Procurement and Camp Management functions within the project team.

This will include the development and implementation of methods, procedures, and systems for the respective disciplines as well as Prime Contract Management on large and/or complex projects.


While in detailed design phase the role will generally be based out of the
Lima Zafranal office, with an option for rotations or assignment for this role.

Once the project transitions into construction the role will be site based with a rotation to be established during detailed engineering.

Project Overview


The Zafranal Project is managed by Compañia Minera Zafranal ("CMZ") in which Teck holds an 80% interest and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation a 20% interest.

The project is a mid-sized copper-gold mine development opportunity in southern Peru at moderate elevation with good access to existing road and port infrastructure.


The Feasibility Study ("FS") was completed in June 2019 and contemplates a 65 ktpd open-pit mine and concentrator operation producing an average of 125 ktpa copper in concentrate over the first five years and 78 ktpa copper in concentrate over a 19-year mine life at C1 cash costs of $1.16/lb and $1.49/lb respectively, net a significant gold credit in concentrate (using $3.50/lb Cu and $1,550/oz Au).

A mineral inventory for possible mine life extension has been identified in drilling.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the area of project control, including the disciplines of estimating, scheduling/planning, cost control, change management, risk management, progress reporting to head office and construction and document control for the project.
  • Responsible for the entire contract and procurement lifecycle, including plan development, process management from inquiry to award, administration and closeout activities.
  • Ensure to the Project Manager the planning and implementation of effective processes and systems on the project, within the standards set by functional Management in the Project Development Group (PDG).
  • Accountable for deliverables, in particular overall project controls, contracts and procurement functions and the commercial agreement of the Prime Contract consultant.
  • Generate and deliver nonroutine reports to senior leadership within the project and to Teck, working very closely with the Project Director, delivering management and guidance to the entire team as well as team members reporting directly to him.
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Maintain and demonstrate Teck's commitment to safety and environmental protection as a core value.
  • Build Services team with key resources to include but not be limited to Project Controls Manager, Contract and Procurement Manager and Camp and Transportation Manager who will report directly to the Project Services Manager.
  • Ensure Services team have adequately skilled resources assigned as required by level of work and need by Project.
  • Accountable for the development of Project Execution Plans and project procedures aligned to the PDG Project Procedures Manual (PPM) specific to Project Controls, Document Control, Contracts and Procurement and Camp Management and Logistics for the Owner's team as well as acceptance of Service Provider plans for these respective disciplines.
  • Manages Contractor performance in respect of the Contract and leads Contractor steering activities as required.
  • Proactively resolves issues that arise between contractors and project teams in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for the setup and implementation of the various project systems, processes, and workflows of the project (internal and with appropriate service provider input).
  • Ensure proper transition of the execution of the Prime Contract from formation team in home office to Services team for administration during detailed design and construction phase through close out of the Prime Contract
  • Responsible to provide input into the set up and administer Prime Contract Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to drive results required by the project.
