Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with technical support centers in South East Asia and East Africa, that provide program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.
The Consultant Architect is a part-time, on-call position responsible for a variety of job responsibilities, including meeting with clients to gather information on project objectives, conducting site surveys, and developing procedural designs to outline project execution. This role requires understanding international and local codes, as well as site utility requirements (water, electric, communications, etc.). The architect must ensure project submittals are reviewed for multi-trade issues and coordinate resolutions with the design manager and team.
Key responsibilities:
- Review the Client's Program of Requirements as per RFP and other information provided by the Client and site characteristics.
- Review applicable statutes, regulations, codes, and by-laws, and consult with the authorities having jurisdiction as necessary.
- Coordinate and collaborate with integrated teams of architects, engineers, planners, and interior designers.
- Attend project kick-off meetings, site investigations, or evaluations of existing facilities within the project site. Assist with client engagement to obtain survey, geotechnical, or hazardous materials reports if required.
- Conduct building assessment evaluations and provide detailed reports of existing buildings/structures based on code compliance, ADA accessibility, and client needs.
- Review scopes of work, specifications, plans, and pertinent jurisdictional codes to ensure project design milestones and deliverable dates are met while providing contract-compliant, cost-effective design solutions.
- Comply with the design process to resolve outstanding design issues, acting as a solution consultant to architects, engineers, and third-party consultants.
- Provide input for the development and implementation of design and construction standards to ensure projects are executed at appropriate levels of quality.
- Provide design review services across all design phases, offering technically competent and aesthetically sensitive comments, mark-ups, and inputs to drawings.
- Prepare basic drawings including sketches, 2D and 3D drawings, construction details/documents, and measured drawings of existing buildings.
- Provide signed and sealed construction drawings, specifications, and other required documentation for projects assigned, ensuring compliance with applicable codes.
- Represent Planate during project construction meetings, ensuring design execution aligns with issued construction documents, schedule, and budget.
- Validate contractor's mark-ups and changes applicable to drawings post-construction.
- Provide project-related services including progress meetings and regulatory approvals, securing necessary permits.
- Support and perform other duties as assigned by the Design Manager.
Qualifications to be successful in the role:
- Must be a licensed Architect.
- Knowledge of office automation systems and software such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- At least 12 years of experience in planning and development for long-range recapitalization programs with knowledge of civil, structural, electrical, fire protection, and mechanical engineering.
- Extensive experience applying fundamental engineering concepts and terminology common to architecture and engineering.
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
