Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida, USA, with technical support centers in South East Asia and East Africa. We provide program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

The Consultant Architect is a part-time, on-call position responsible for a variety of job responsibilities including meeting with clients and gathering information on project objectives. Responsibilities include conducting site surveys for building placements, using procedural designs to create step-by-step plans, and understanding requirements mandated by international and local codes. Additionally, the architect must understand site utility requirements (water, electric, communications, etc.) and ensure project submittals are reviewed for multi-trade issues, coordinating resolutions with the design manager and design team.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Review the Client's Program of Requirements as per RFP and other information furnished by the Client and the characteristics of the site.
  2. Review applicable statutes, regulations, codes, and by-laws, and where necessary, review the same with the authorities having jurisdiction.
  3. Coordinate and collaborate with integrated teams of architects, engineers, planners, and interior designers.
  4. Attend Project Kick-off meetings, site investigations, or valuations of existing facilities within the project site. Aid with client engagement to obtain survey, geotechnical, or hazardous materials reports if required.
  5. Conduct Building Assessment evaluations and provide detailed reports of existing buildings/structures based on code compliance, ADA accessibility, and client needs.
  6. Review scopes of work, specifications, plans, and pertinent jurisdictional codes to ensure project design milestones and deliverable dates are met while providing contract-compliant, cost-effective design solutions to the client.
  7. Comply with the design process to ensure all outstanding design issues requiring decision-making are resolved, acting as a solution consultant to architects, engineers, and third-party consultants.
  8. Provide input for the development and implementation of design and construction standards to ensure projects are executed at appropriate levels of quality.
  9. Provide Design Review services across all design phases, offering technically competent and aesthetically sensitive solutions, comments, mark-ups, and inputs to drawings suitable to client requirements.
  10. Provide basic drawings that may include sketches, 2D and 3D drawings, construction details/documents, presentation drawings, and measured drawings of existing buildings.
  11. Provide signed and sealed construction drawings, specifications, and other required documentation for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes.
  12. Act as a representative of Planate during project construction meetings, ensuring design execution aligns with issued construction documents, schedule, and budget.
  13. Validate contractor's mark-ups and other changes applicable to drawings after construction completion.
  14. Provide services related to the project including progress meetings and regulatory approvals, securing necessary approvals and permits for the project.
  15. Provide support and perform other duties as assigned by the Design Manager.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  1. Must be a licensed Architect.
  2. Knowledgeable in office automation systems, including software such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  3. At least 12 years of experience in planning and development of new concepts for long-range recapitalization programs, with knowledge of related fields such as civil, structural, electrical, fire protection, mechanical engineering, and Architecture Engineering.
  4. Extensive experience applying fundamental engineering concepts, terminology, and units of measurement (both metric and US) common to all branches of architecture, engineering, project management, and financial management.
  5. Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
