**DUTIES**:
USAID Development Assistance Specialist (Indigenous Peoples Advisor) - The Indigenous Peoples Advisor serves on a dynamic team to support U.S. foreign policy and further development in Peru and the South America Region. Many USAID/Peru activities directly affect the communities of Amazonian Indigenous Peoples. The Specialist will be a professional on the social, political, and economic challenges facing those communities. The Specialist serves as a senior advisor to the USAID/Peru Mission on implementation of the Agency’s policy regarding Indigenous Peoples, including promoting outreach, engagement and partnerships with Indigenous Peoples. Duties include helping to ensure views and concerns of Indigenous Peoples and other stakeholders are heard and integrated in the design and implementation of new and current projects and activities.

The Specialist is a member of USAID/Peru’s Regional Program Office (RPO) and is supervised by the Senior Inclusive Development Specialist. RPO oversees the USAID Program Cycle, including strategic planning; program design and implementation; budget planning; and monitoring and evaluation; and ensures policy compliance and conformance with Agency program directives (ADS 200 series). The Office also coordinates information-sharing that furthers the implementation of USAID’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy.

The Indigenous Peoples Advisor facilitates the implementation of the Agency’s strategies and policies regarding Indigenous Peoples in Peru, and contributes to these efforts in neighboring countries. The position directly supports the objectives of the Agency’s Policy on Promoting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (PRO-IP) to integrate Indigenous Peoples’ concerns across the Agency’s programs and at all stages of the Program Cycle. The Specialist will be expected to advise Mission management regarding the rights and needs of indigenous persons, especially in the context of Amazonian communities; build and maintain strong relationships with Peru’s indigenous communities; and work to ensure indigenous participation constraints are identified, understood and addressed as activities are designed and implemented.

**EXPERIENCE**:
A minimum of three years of professional experience related to indigenous communities, inclusive development, ethnic minority integration, human rights, gender, civil society, or other areas related to development and vulnerable populations is required.

**EDUCATION**:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Business, Liberal Arts, Journalism, or related field is required.
