Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

**Main purpose of job**:
The successful applicant will lead British Embassy Lima’s policy work on green finance, including diplomatic action and technical expertise to deliver on UK and Peruvian Government priorities on climate and green finance.

This position is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of a central area of UK - Peru collaboration. The post holder will be required to provide advice to more senior staff and support the development of a vision for how to grow the climate relationship, including from a finance perspective. This role will report directly to the Head of Economic Diplomacy at the Embassy.

**Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?**:

- To coordinate implementation of the Embassy’s green and sustainable finance strategy for Peru, working closely with economic, political, and communications colleagues. This will include ensuring that delivery of green finance objectives support long-term decarbonisation, and resilience & adaptation objectives in Peru, including clean growth, energy transition, transport and industrial decarbonisation, nature-based solutions and bilateral programming on green finance.
- To coordinate with Whitehall colleagues on engagement with Peru, advising on local sensitivities and Peruvian priorities on green finance; including briefing for ministers and senior officials.
- To liaise with officials in the Peruvian government, including Ministries of Environment, Economy, Agriculture and Foreign Affairs on policy and operational elements of delivering green and climate finance. This will include advising and supporting engagement between senior officials (including Heads of Mission) and Ministers.
- To plan and implement engagement with non-Government actors. This will include building relationships with working level contacts in sub-national authorities (cities, regions, municipalities), representatives of businesses, and financial institutions and financial regulators.
- To manage Ministerial and official visits from the UK related to green and climate finance in Peru. This could include planning and advising on visit agendas, coordinating with media colleagues, and supporting in events as required and in line with the Embassy’s priorities on green finance.
- To play an active part in the corporate life of the Embassy to maximise the overall well-being of staff, and to contribute to the Embassy’s response in case of a crisis

The above is an indicative outline of likely tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. You will carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Embassy. These responsibilities may be reviewed on an ongoing basis in accordance with the changing needs of the organisation.

**Resources managed**:
The role will be required to undertake line management duties of at least one staff member, as well as Deputising for the Head of Section. The role also supports the delivery of a portfolio of climate programming.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

**Essential on arrival**:

- A minimum of 5 years of experience working for an organisation in a relevant field, for example, working for/with national or regional government on green and sustainable finance, international organisations or agencies, preferably in green and/or climate & sustainable finance.
- Strong understanding of international sustainable finance policy, with relevant experience including from university or previous professional work experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of managing diverse and senior level relationships.
- Proven ability to write fluently and persuasively in English about technical and policy issues for a senior audience.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or Masters in a relevant field, for instance Public Policy, Public Administration, International Relations, Climate and Environmental Science, etc.
- Experience working on green and sustainable finance policies; in alignment with Peruvian climate change priorities, including NDCs.
- Experience and good technical knowledge of the ESG landscapes for Corporates and financial institutions and in-depth knowledge of key reporting frameworks and standards for example, TCFD, TNFD, IFRS/ISSB, UN PRI, GRI, UK Green Finance Strategy and Peru’s Green Finance Roadmap
- Knowledge or experience of project and programme management.
