Senior Policy Officer – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Prevention Group We are seeking a highly capable and passionate policy professional who is committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You will bring strong policy development and research expertise, preferably within Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence or related social policy areas, and a demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and stakeholders. About the Role The Senior Policy Officer will provide high-level policy support to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Prevention Group (Prevention Group). This role is central to advancing the Group’s priorities, including the design and establishment of new representative structures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled organisations delivering Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence services. You will work collaboratively with government, non-government agencies, and DFSV sector stakeholders, ensuring strong relationships and effective communication between the Prevention Group and key partners. Your research and policy analysis will inform strategies to address current and emerging DFSV challenges impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Key Responsibilities - Support the Prevention Group to deliver the priorities outlined in its forward workplan. - Build and maintain effective relationships with government departments, non-government agencies, and DFSV industry stakeholders to advance the Prevention Group’s objectives. - Coordinate and support the preparation of correspondence, policy advice, and submissions from the Prevention Group to both the Queensland and Australian Governments. - Conduct research, policy analysis, and reporting to identify current and emerging trends in DFSV impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. - Contribute to the continuous improvement of Prevention Group initiatives and undertake other duties as required. - Travel as required to support the Prevention Group’s activities and engagement with communities and stakeholders. Selection Criteria - Minimum of two to five years’ experience in a policy, or advisory role, preferably within social policy or community-led sectors. - Demonstrated experience contributing to policy development, and/or the establishment or support of representative or peak bodies. - Proven research and analytical skills, including the ability to identify and respond to current and emerging issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, specifically in Family Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence. - High-level literacy and information technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. - Established ability to work collaboratively with government, non-government organisations, industry bodies and community stakeholders. - Highly developed organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively in complex environments. Mandatory Compliance Requirements - Appropriate qualification and/or demonstrated experience in policy and research. - A current and valid driver’s licence. - A current Blue Card – Working with Children (or the ability to obtain one). - Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory National Criminal History Check.
