Role The Platform Engineering team develops backend platforms at Whatnot. As the Engineering Manager, you will focus on building, maintaining, and setting the vision for a scalable platform that enables our engineers to develop features rapidly while ensuring a stable and secure experience for customers. In addition, you will: 1. Hire and develop engineers across platform applications and backend systems. 2. Collaborate with product and infrastructure engineering teams to define strategic directions, advocating for solutions that support our growth. 3. Plan and manage projects, aligning team goals with broader business objectives. Note: Team members in this role should be within commuting distance of our hubs in San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, or Seattle, WA. You Ideal candidates embody our cultural principles and will have: - Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP), Kubernetes, Docker, and IaC tools like Terraform. - Experience at a hyper-growth startup, with strong problem-solving skills and self-starting attitude. - Technical leadership in large distributed systems. - Experience leading engineering teams, guiding career development, and executing in fast-paced environments. - Low ego, good judgment, and a builder's mindset. - Ability to recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing teams. - Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to handle ambiguity. - Substantial hands-on experience relevant to the managed role. - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Compensation For US-based full-time applicants: $215,000 - $285,000/year + benefits + equity. Final salary depends on experience, skills, and level.
