- The Large-Scale Fisheries Manager contributes to the analysis and the development of The Nature Conservancy’s global large-scale fisheries strategy, and the global strategy’s alignment and execution into the Latin America Region context.
The Manager helps to establish the Conservancy as a major conservation partner for large-scale fishery improvements and Electronic Monitoring (EM) within the Latin America Region, defining conservation priorities and long-term conservation strategies. The manager builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field and develops key partnerships with public and private organizations to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices. The Manager is a key contributor in advancing the growing portfolio of projects in the Latin America Region, focused on fisheries transparency, seafood sustainability, policy, and corporate engagement. They may contribute to innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools and frameworks that address the scaling of Electronic Monitoring, as well as negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and industry partners. It will entail fundraising efforts in alignment with the regional and global teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Designs, implements, and directs complex and diverse projects encompassing multiple programs.
- Works with staff from across the Latin America Region and the Global organization.
- Travels on short notice and work long and flexible hours as needed
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% both domestically and internationally.
- Provides strategic analysis in support of conservation agenda for a key strategy area
- Provides economic analysis of conservation opportunities
- Leads and/or manages team or project to support and improve conservation efforts.
- Responsible for ensuring that public and private funds are raised to meet program needs.
- Builds cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals

**WHAT YOU'LL BRING**:
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in fisheries management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience engaging across and/or working within fishery departments, industry partners, and other stakeholders to achieve a common objective
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, industry groups, and/or government agencies
- Experience negotiating.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in Spanish and English

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 5-7 years’ experience in fisheries management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing fisheries management policy and plans.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in industrial fisheries within the Latin America Region, and familiarity on how these trends and practices connect into global trends
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising.
- Politically savvy.
