Overview Location: The position can be based in Lima (Peru). We improve lives IDB Invest is the private sector arm of the IDB Group and an international financial institution committed to addressing the development needs of Latin America and the Caribbean. IDB Invest operates in 26 countries, structured across four geographic regions and three vertical industries: Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions, and Corporates. In support of a new transformative business model “Originate to Share” our shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization. This will allow IDB Invest to significantly scale up its investments, nearly doubling annual financing from approximately $8 billion to $19 billion, and unlocking greater private sector participation to drive development and climate impact across the region. To Deliver On This Ambition, IDB Invest reorganized its structure and created the Regions Department, which manages business and client relationships from a country perspective. The Regions include: Southern Cone (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay) Andean Group (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela) Caribbean (The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago) Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic Additionally, the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department manages business and client engagement from an industry perspective. It is composed of six divisions: three focused on core industries (Infrastructure and Energy (IEN), Financial Institutions (FLI), and Corporates (SMC)); two focused on cross-cutting themes (Climate and Environment (CLE) and Gender and Social Inclusion (GSI)); and one dedicated to Portfolio Management (PTM). Together, these divisions support the implementation of IDB Invest’s mandate by providing sectoral expertise, thematic leadership, and strategic portfolio oversight across the institution. What you’ll do Responsibilities The consultant's scope of activities shall include, but not be limited to, providing support for the identification, appraisal, structuring, negotiation, closing, disbursement, and monitoring of infrastructure and energy projects, mostly structured as limited recourse project finance transactions in the sectors listed above. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Project Origination Prepare marketing materials: teasers, financial proposals, and presentations to prospective clients. Conduct industry and market research and assist investment Officers in business development efforts, including research relative to prospective projects and sponsors, gather and review relevant market and financial data, and help with the preparation of operations summaries and preliminary desk evaluations of potential projects. Build and maintain quality client relationships to ensure responsive client service and to improve new business opportunities. Structuring Process Prepare terms of reference and lead the selection of external consulting firms (independent engineers, market consultants, insurance consultants, tax & financial model consultants, etc.) that support the investment team in the appraisal of project finance operations. Work with other team members and external consulting firms to perform the due diligence process of the transactions. Participate in negotiations with clients to gather necessary technical, legal, economic, and financial information for the assessment of potential lending or equity investment projects. Create, review, and/or adapt financial models and prepare sensitivity analyses required in connection with the credit assessment of the transactions. Review and analyze historical and projected financial data statements and perform financial analyses for project finance transactions and/or corporate financing. Assist Investment Officers in the preparation of documentation for IDB Invest's internal approval processes. Maintain the internal system updated. Support the Financial Closing Process. Assist Investment Officers during the closing process of the transactions. Assist with financial closings and disbursements for approved lending and investment projects by assisting with the verification that clients comply with all contractual conditions. What you'll need Education: At least a Bachelor's or equivalent degree with specialization/major in finance, accounting, business administration, or economics. Master’s degree or MBA will be considered a plus. Experience: Between 2 and 4 years of relevant employment experience in corporate and project financing. Proven track-record working with both equity and debt in an investment bank, commercial bank or developmental bank is desirable. Experience in the infrastructure sector is highly valued. Experience with regulated utilities, concession agreements and other public-private partnership schemes, as well as relevant experience in infrastructure transactions in Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable. Very strong financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills will be considered a plus. Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable. Requirements Citizenship: Must be eligible to work in Peru without the need for sponsorship. Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
