Corus World Health is seeking a highly skilled Senior Health Systems Strengthening Director to lead the anticipated 5-year, $10-$24.99 million USAID-funded Strengthening Systems for Health Security Activity (SSHS) in Peru.

This activity aims to help Peru build robust capabilities in preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious diseases and health threats to ensure national and global health security. The SSHS project will work towards this goal by focusing on three objectives: reducing disease transmission from animals to human populations, improving surveillance systems, and enhancing response capacities through a skilled and competent health security workforce.

Founded in 1960, Corus World Health operates in fragile settings, prioritizing global health security, health systems strengthening, social and behavior change, and integrated primary healthcare support and delivery. We lead the global health portfolio at Corus International, an international development and humanitarian assistance organization comprising Lutheran World Relief, CGA Technologies, and Ground Up Investing.

About the Position

The Sr. Health Systems Strengthening Director will be based in Lima or another mutually agreed-upon location in Peru, leading and overseeing all technical components of the project. This includes ensuring the technical soundness of all project activities, aligning with project objectives and benchmarks. Collaborating with the project team and consortium partners, the Sr. Director will support the design and implementation of all project efforts to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases while promoting health systems strengthening. They will leverage evidence-based approaches to achieve these goals.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Peruvian government, other implementing partners, and national and local counterparts to set priorities and provide technical support for designing and facilitating learning strategies, including training and capacity building initiatives. Additionally, they will synthesize learning from the project for dissemination of results.

Responsibilities

  • Provide program oversight and supervision in the design and day-to-day management of activities, coordinating implementation with the Chief of Party.
  • Advise the COP on human resources allocation, training, and deployment.
  • Ensure compliance with proper protocol for spending project resources and follow project procedures.
  • Develop and implement key project deliverables, including work plans, quarterly and annual plans, and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plans.

Key Requirements

  • An advanced degree in a relevant field such as infectious disease, tropical medicine, public health, epidemiology, animal health, environmental science, one health, or health systems strengthening.
  • A strong background in the prevention, detection, and response to infectious diseases, with solid understanding of infectious disease epidemiology.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in senior roles designing, implementing, evaluating, and managing large, complex programs of similar scope, preferably in global health security in public and private facilities.
  • Previous experience in health systems strengthening at various levels (local to national), preferably in Peru.
  • Familiarity with USAID awards and working knowledge of USAID's administrative, management, and reporting procedures and systems.
  • A proven track record managing a project team composed of numerous technical experts, fostering teamwork through innovative methods.
  • Leadership capacity and experience supervising diverse staff, promoting trust and mutual respect.
  • Excellent diplomacy skills, establishing and maintaining relationships with USAID, host-country counterparts, NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector.
  • Excellent English and Spanish oral and written communication skills required.
