Main Purpose

Main Purpose of Role:
Objective 1: To support Trafigura’s global supplier due diligence and corresponding capacity-building programme, with a specific emphasis on Latin America.
Objective 2: To support Trafigura´s social performance related to its asset portfolio with a specific emphasis on Latin America.
The position requires relocation to Montevideo, Uruguay (covered by the company).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Graduate qualification, with degree or post-graduate education in disciplines such as mining engineering, economics and development, environmental and/or social science, human rights, natural resource governance.
- Extractive and/or infrastructure sector knowledge gained through, for example, industry, financial institution or consultancy roles.
- Experience of assessing, managing and/or delivering social performance to international standards, notably OECD Due Diligence Guidelines for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals, IFC Performance Standards, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, ICMM Principles and/or ILO labour standards.
- Experience of developing and supporting the ongoing development of supply chain diligence and/or social performance programmes.
- Excellent communicator with strong influencing skills, comfortable in liaising with and advising senior level management, as well as expert third parties.
- High degree of fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English is essential.
- Analytical, highly detail orientated and organised.
- Independent self-starter.
- Commercial and collaborative mind-set.
Key Responsabilities
Responsible value chains
- Through liaison with colleagues within the region, and with the support of team members internationally, the role will continually assess the potential for (and, where required, the response to) direct and indirect social and environmental impacts across supplier relationships. Such assessments will be made remotely, as well as in person / at a site level. Travel will be an important part of the role. Particular countries of interest may include, for example, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico.
- Through liaison with a range of colleagues and external counterparts, the role will support decision-making and actions to mitigate risks and impacts as applicable, such as through the enhancement of existing operational procedures, the development of diligence mechanisms, the creation of new tools and / or the development of new partnerships. The role will provide strategic / ongoing support to counterparts through Trafigura’s capacity building programmes.
Social Assessments
- Through liaison with a range of colleagues of Trafigura’s Groups subsidiaries and Communities, Health, Environment, Safety and Securities (CHESS) team members, the role will support the assessment of social performance of Trafigura’s owned assets in a variety of industries, including but not limited to: mining, warehousing, solar, oil and gas in the Latin American region. The role will support the enhancement of existing operational procedures and the creation of new tools.
Training
- Developing and delivering training for staff, service providers, as well as upstream and downstream counterparts and stakeholders as applicable relevant to social performance.
