Data Engineer

We are seeking a driven and experienced Data Engineer to join our remote engineering team across LATAM. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing robust data infrastructure that drives our SaaS racquet sports platform. As a member of Playbypoint, you'll collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to enable actionable insights and scale data solutions that fuel our growth.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines integrating multiple data sources.
- Develop and optimize data warehouses, lakehouses, and analytical data models for performance and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with data analysts, product managers, and software engineers to model business requirements, automate reporting, and support advanced analytics initiatives.
- Implement and maintain data quality, consistency, lineage, and monitoring solutions.
- Assess, select, and implement appropriate data engineering technologies and tools (e.g., cloud services, orchestration, warehousing solutions).
- Ensure best practices in data security, compliance, and governance.
- Document architecture, workflows, and processes, promoting knowledge sharing and transparency across teams.
- Participate in code reviews, proactively identifying opportunities for performance and scalability improvements.
- Contribute to a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive engineering culture that values continuous improvement and learning.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
- Proven professional experience as a Data Engineer, Data Platform Engineer, or similar role within a SaaS, cloud, or data-driven environment.
- Strong skills in SQL, relational and non-relational databases (such as PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, MongoDB, or similar).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python or Scala, with demonstrated experience in data processing and automation.
- Experience building, deploying, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using modern frameworks and tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Luigi, Dataflow).
- Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions (AWS, GCP, Azure) and related storage, compute, and orchestration services.
- Understanding of data modeling, data quality, and data governance best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset and a passion for delivering high-quality, impactful solutions.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal) required. Spanish or Portuguese skills are a plus.
- Located in a LATAM country with the ability to work remotely and overlap hours with EST time zone.
Skills and Experience
- Experience with streaming data technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub) or real-time analytics architectures.
- Practice with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps in a data context.
- Comfort working with modern BI tools (such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.)
- Previous experience in the sports tech, SaaS, or startup sector is an advantage but not required.
