Join Canonical as a Site Reliability / GitOps Engineer. Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software, most notably Ubuntu, used worldwide by enterprises in cloud, AI, IoT and other technology sectors. Job Summary The Information Systems (IS) team maintains all of Canonical’s production services, supporting over 60 million users. As a SRE & GitOps engineer you will drive automation across private and public clouds, develop infrastructure as code, and provide critical feedback on Canonical products and open‑source technologies. Location This role is fully remote and available to candidates in any timezone. Responsibilities - Apply IaC practices to continuously improve automation and infra‑as‑code processes. - Automate software operations for consistency across private and public clouds. - Develop new features and enhance resilience and scalability of Canonical’s cloud and container portfolio. - Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks and infrastructure. - Design, implement and maintain monitoring and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch and similar tools. - Collaborate with development teams on service architecture, documentation, playbooks and operational procedures. - Assist and work with distributed engineering, operations, and support peers. - Focus on large projects and automation of manual tasks with uninterrupted development time. - Share best practices during design sessions, mentorship and collaborative work. - Carry final responsibility for time‑critical escalations. Qualifications - Deep experience defining operations in code, using CI/CD, version control, and peer review. - Strong modern engineering background: unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile. - Python software development experience with large projects. - Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, firewalls and storage (Ceph, databases). - Hands‑on experience administering enterprise Linux servers. - Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies. - Bachelor’s degree or greater in computer science or related engineering field. - Excellent written and verbal communication in English. - Motivation to troubleshoot from kernel to web and willingness to ask for help. - Flexibility and eagerness to learn new technologies quickly. - Passion and familiarity with open‑source, especially Ubuntu and Debian.
