Assistant Project Manager

The Opportunity

We are hiring an ambitious and forward-thinking assistant project manager to join our established and growing team in Lima.

Project: You will be working within the United Kingdom Delivery Team (UKDT) JV team helping provide excellent levels of project and program management assurance. The APM role will support all aspects of the assurance we provide and become an integral part of our team of experienced, international consultants. As part of UKDT’s Education team you will gain hands on experience of delivering a program of 74 Schools across Peru.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

- Reporting to the sector lead.
- Providing team co-ordination support to a multi-discipline team of international consultants. This will include receiving, tracking and reporting the progress of client support requests.
- Team record keeping and acting as a point of contact for the team and client counterparts.
- Supporting with organization of meetings, note taking and actions.
- Supporting the provision of advice and guidance on procurement, project management, project controls, HSQE, stakeholder engagement and knowledge transfer issues.
- Supporting risk and issue management.
- Drafting reports and supporting others with the research and editing required to generate reports and technical advice notes.
- Supporting and mentoring the client’s project managers and delivery teams in the Education workstream.
- Championing the program’s PDMS and working to help embed the program governance in all areas of the role.
- Representing UKDT during visits to school construction sites.
- Supporting team members in site-based assurance, progress checking and the completion of quality and H&S inspections.
- Planning site visits; preparation of itineraries; advance coordination with client project managers and central staff.
- Ensuring that the client’s projects are aligned with the program’s structures and processes, led by the PMO.
- Developing your knowledge, skills and ability through in-role learning, mentorship and guidance.
- Supporting the implementation of international best practice in project and program management in Peru.
- Supporting the UKDT in increasing assurance of the quality management process.
- Delivering allocated tasks on time and to high quality.
- Developing your knowledge of Mace as an organization and contributing to our Strategic Priorities.
- Demonstrating Mace behaviors at all times.

About You

You have awareness of the stages of a project lifecycle. You have effective written and verbal skills appropriate to specific situations for a variety of stakeholders. You have sound understanding of the principles of design, methodology of construction. You have good knowledge of models and tools used to quantify and manage risk. You have good knowledge of planning techniques and software like Gantt charts, critical path analysis and basic knowledge of MS Project. You have knowledge of effective use of data management systems. You have good presentation skills, including graphics. You have effective report writing skills and strong IT skills.

It is desired that you have awareness of NEC form of contract, PQQs, tenders, OJEU process and public sector frameworks; CDM and health and safety regulations; cost management processes including use of cash flows, payment certificates and valuation; requirements for effective contract administration and reporting like RFIs, CVIs and project/company insurances, warranties and legal documents; and conflict resolution techniques.

It is desired that you have previous experience in a similar role, previous experience of working in the construction industry, in a fast-paced project environment; with the NEC form of contract; and in an assurance or advisory role.
